Who we are

The Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre is a family friendly visitor attraction located on the waters of the Grand Canal Basin.

We will take you on a journey of Ireland’s waterways in history and culture. You will hear the story of Dublin’s two canals and the race to reach the Shannon, legends of monsters living in the locks and the tragic voyage of the ‘45M’. Hands on activities demonstrate driving a barge, navigating a canal lock system and an interactive quiz testing your knowledge of Ireland’s waterways.
We also provide advice, guides, maps, and charts for those planning on using the waterways and the activities on and around them.

The unique location on the water, in the city and its architectural award winning structure makes the centre, affectionately known as the ‘box on the docks', ideal to hire for exhibitions, launches, photo shoots and events.

Opening hours: April to September: Wednesday to Sunday 10:00 – 6:00pm
